The core of much psychology and self-help (which is just philosophy in practise) is the idea that you have two main modes of operation:
Reactive mode - your survival, default brain takes control and although you might think you’re thinking and making decisions, it’s subconscious. Your brain is filtered through cultural expectations and gendered conditioning, biases and self-limiting beliefs that go unchallenged in reactive mode.
Responsive mode - you have some emotional and mental bandwidth to actually process the right thought for you. You don’t always accept the first thought in your head, you are able to recognise that some thoughts are imposter syndrome, or perfectionism or come from a place of people pleasing, and can proactively cast them aside to reach for a more supportive thought.
Living with intention is the difference between being in these two modes. It’s the ability to choose.
So as we forge through our Midlife, redefined Daily Journal Guide adventure we are back for the second round of Action & Living in Intention, helping you respond to your life, rather than always reacting to it.
