As part of my year long Midlife, redefined Daily Journal Guide, I give you 14 daily prompts every two weeks to help you journal each day (or as many as you can muster) to get, and stay, connected to yourself. The prompts below for the next two weeks are about starting to live with greater intention and checking in to see what’s working and what’s not working in your life. You can start this journalling guide at any time of the year because it’s not date related: The daily prompts from Weeks 1 to 18 are here.
Living in intention
It’s estimated by some research that we can spend up to 40% of our days in habitual, default actions. That means routines, habits, actions we just do without thinking. That of course is useful so we’re not reinventing the wheel every minute of the day, but it can mean we can blindly blaze through, not really checking in to see if we have changed or evolved, if we need new ways of thinking or behaving to match where we are and where we want to be going.
At midlife, it’s so important to regularly check in with who, where and how you are to make sure you are living with a sense of intention that is giving you the life you want to be living, and becoming the woman you want to become.
In the beginning of my book Midlife, redefined: Better, Bolder, Brighter I talk about the checklist we create in early adulthood; the one from which we will judge the success of our lives. This checklist is often created from trying to answer the question, ‘what do I want my life to look like?’ Midlife is a time to ask a better question - ‘what do I want my life to feel like?’ Living intentionally is about creating habits, making decisions, being driven by that question. That’s why developing a deep relationship with yourself is so important and why journalling is a brilliant way of giving yourself the space and time to check in!
Checking in to see what’s working in your life (in all areas of money, fitness, health, relationships, emotional well-being) means you are constantly adapting and assessing so that you aren’t just accepting the workload or the anxiety as a norm, but see that it’s a part that needs attention or fixing. The simple assessment of do I want to Stop, Start or Continue this action, belief or habit helps you decide what’s working and what’s not and gives you the clear direction for changing, stopping or growing yourself.
For those of you newly following me on Your Midlife Matters (thank you for being here!) I’ve already explained how this year-long Midlife, redefined Daily Journal Guide adventure with yourself will work in Power is in Your Hand. You can start this journalling guide at any time of the year because it’s not date related: The daily prompts from Weeks 1 to 18 are here.
In this year long adventure with yourself, this opportunity to spend a few minutes every day (or as many days a week as you can) thinking about yourself will transform your relationship with yourself and to matter more in your own midlife and to build self-knowledge and empower yourself to live life for you.
A quick reminder we are now in the third section - Taking Action and Living with Intention. The first part was Self-Discovery and the second part was Passion, Purpose & Priorities. Then we repeat these directions (with new prompts) for the second 6 months.
