As part of my year long Midlife, redefined Daily Journal Guide, I give you 14 daily prompts every two weeks to help you journal each day (or as many as you can muster) to get, and stay, connected to yourself. The prompts below for the next two weeks are about updating your mental software and living with greater intention. You can start this journalling guide at any time of the year because it’s not date related: The daily prompts from Weeks 1 to 24 are here.
Review & renew
Our lives should be in a constant cycle of review and renew. Not that you are reinventing the wheel each time, or constantly changing all your goals and becoming a different person every five minutes, but that you are reviewing from this place, today..… which is different from even yesterday.
I’m sure you have made a quick decision or formed an immediate thought and then the next day or after some time, you’ve reflected and changed your mind slightly. That’s review and renew. And here’s the really exciting thing about this process of building this dynamic relationship with yourself… the more you review and renew, the more you get curious, the more you journal and explore who and how and where you are, the more aware and engaged you become. That investment of time and thought builds momentum, it becomes easier, and the more you start to know yourself the more you start to know yourself. You become less critical, you feel more confident with choosing the right thoughts, and you have more clarity in your actions and intentions.
You also see the small steps and habits you are making and changing. You start to realise that often your life is changed more not by the BIG decisions, but by the small, every day decisions to change the way you respond over reacting, to pull at a thread in your life and discover you can weave a whole new fabric, to see patterns of thoughts and behaviours and then get to be intentional about changing them to ones that serve you better.
Well you are 6 months in. Six months of a small but mighty daily investment in yourself. Just that simple act of checking in on, and with, yourself every day, approaching your relationship with yourself with curiosity and then being able to live with more intention changes everything. It’s the difference between living on default mode, (thinking you’re thinking, but really living much of your life with deeply unconscious patterns ruling your thoughts and behaviours), and living with intention - aware, alive and engaged in your thoughts and behaviours.
Building this relationship with yourself is one of the greatest gifts you will ever give yourself. And like any and every relationship you’ll have good days and bad days, you’ll have arguments and be stroppy, you’ll be excited and purposeful, and self-discovery is such an important part of that relationship.
Which is why we’re back to self-discovery. Over the last six months of daily journal promotes, you went through three distinct stages: self-discovery; purpose, passion & priorities; and actions & living with intention.
Now we’re going to go back and review and renew - a whole new series of prompts for the three stages but deeper now, wider and wiser because you’ve already been there.
