As part of my year long Midlife, redefined Daily Journal Guide, I give you 14 daily prompts every two weeks to help you journal each day (or as many as you can muster) to get, and stay, connected to yourself. The prompts below for the next two weeks are about updating your mental software and living with greater intention. You can start this journalling guide at any time of the year because it’s not date related: The daily prompts from Weeks 1 to 22 are here.
My Midlife Manifesto
The last few weeks of journal prompts have been about upgrading your software. Just like our phones need an update, so when we get to the messy middle of midlife we need to stop and assess where we are at whatever stage we’re at, and just look up. Take in the landscape.
Where have we come from and what have we learned along the way?
Wow - look at the view from that fecker of a mountain I wasn’t sure I could climb but did!
OK, I didn’t plan to take that path but look where it has led me.
What’s in my backpack and what emergency supplies do I need for the next leg of this journey called life?
And most importantly, do I need to refresh my map? Do I need to slightly alter my path? Go explore over there. Is there another mountain to climb? If so, what do I need to help me climb it. What pace do I want to set myself in this particular part of the trek through my life - speed up, slow down, rest up, refuel?
Now that I’m here in this particular spot, with this view and this experience, what GPS do I need to set?
The GPS you set in our early 20’s might not be taking you on the right route now you are decades older, wiser and wilder (well, your hair is anyway).
You likely followed some well-worn signposts to get you here. But in this unique and extended midlife, we are often standing on virgin landscape. With coloured markers in your hand, it’s time to write some new signposts.
For those of you newly following me on Your Midlife Matters (thank you for being here!) I’ve already explained how this year-long Midlife, redefined Daily Journal Guide adventure with yourself will work in Power is in Your Hand. You can start this journalling guide at any time of the year because it’s not date related: The daily prompts from Weeks 1 to 22 are here.
In this year long adventure with yourself, this opportunity to spend a few minutes every day (or as many days a week as you can) thinking about yourself will transform your relationship with yourself and to matter more in your own midlife and to build self-knowledge and empower yourself to live life for you.
