"I like myself, and feel more beautiful now than I ever did when I was younger, and I am personally delighted to be the age I am - it means I survived when I maybe didn’t expect I would!"
Your honesty here is remarkable, Alana. Refreshing, actually. I admire the self-examination you are allowing yourself and the blunt honesty of your resistance to some of it.
This is a great interview. I love how it highlights the intersection of alcohol and midlife. How some of us (I did!) come to a reckoning where we know there is a better way, a truer way.
Ah thank you so much. yes, I'll be posting next week on my own examination as I come to the end of dry January - I feel my relationship with alcohol right now is like my teenagers must feel being told to wear a coat going to school when it's not cool to wear a coat but they secretly know they'll be better off wearing a coat but don't want to wear a coat!
Just the fact that you know you should wear the coat is HUGE. I look forward to you post next week.
I participated in a Dry January back in 2021 and it catapulted me into a sober life. No matter where yours takes you, it's awesome that you have this self-awareness.

Esther’s story is powerful!
